
Natural Endings is a national award-winning independent funeral company creating thoughtful, personal and meaningful funerals. We are looking for a compassionate, motivated person to join our small team as a Trainee Undertaker, supporting families through every stage of the funeral journey.
About the role
This varied role offers full training in modern funeral care. You will help families arrange unique funerals, care for people who have died with dignity and respect, assist on funeral days, liaise with celebrants, crematoria and suppliers, and support the day-to-day running of our funeral home.
The role is based in Todmorden but you would occasionally work in South Manchester.
As your confidence grows, you will gradually take responsibility for managing your own funerals.
About you
Previous funeral experience is not essential, but it is preferred. What matters is that you are compassionate, emotionally intelligent, reliable and confident supporting people at one of the most difficult times in their lives. You will need to be a strong communicator, well organised, flexible and, comfortable working as part of a close-knit team and willing to learn.
Essential practical requirements
• Full, clean UK driving licence.
• Aged 21 or over.
• Basic IT skills and right to work in the UK.
• Able to obtain a DBS check.
• Live within approximately 30–40 minutes of Todmorden for future on-call duties.
• Physically fit and able to assist with some lifting (not pall bearing)
Hours and working pattern
The role is initially three days per week, with the expectation that it may grow to four days per week as the business expands. Working days can be flexible, although availability on funeral days is required. Occasional evening and weekend work will be needed, and once fully trained you will join the on-call rota (a weekend a month), with an additional on-call payment.
Salary and benefits
• Starting salary: £13.50p/h to £15.00 p/h depending on experience, eight hours a day.
The role will be a minimum of three days a week although we expect the role to expand to four days a week in busier times.
• Statuary annual leave allowance including bank holidays.
