Direct Cremation

Direct cremation

A direct cremation, often also called an unattended funeral, is a simple and economical way of arranging a cremation without family and friends attending the crematorium. Our current cost for this is £1,595.

When you arrange a direct cremation with a small independent funeral director such as Natural Endings you have more flexibility and choice than you would with one of the large corporate national providers. For instance, for an additional fee you can still visit your person at our funeral home. You can even have a very small informal gathering at the funeral home before the cremation if you wish.

Your reasons to choose this option could be that:

• The person who has died stated that they did not want a formal ceremony

• You might want to hold a memorial on a later date

• You might just want to remember the person in your own way and not need a formal gathering for this.

Alternatively, if it’s just the idea of going to the crematorium that you don’t like you can still have a full funeral ceremony with your person’s coffin present. The ceremony can be in a church, our ceremony space in Todmorden or one of many other secular venues that we work with in the Calder Valley or Manchester.

The £1,595 includes taking your person in to our care inside normal working hours, all care, all transportation, a simple eco coffin, putting arrangements in place, all staff and the crematorium fee.

Please note: For direct cremations Natural Endings choose the time and date of the cremation, and which crematorium is used. It is usually arranged within seven days of you registering the death or the Coroner releasing cremation paperwork. If you choose to have a full funeral before a direct cremation the cremation is usually the following day.
