Gordon Kay

Gordon Kay
30 December 1933 – 13 December 2025

A gentle man in the truest sense, he enjoyed solitude, quiet companionship and shared laughter. A skilled craftsman who could turn his hand to anything. Gordon spoke little, loved deeply and appreciated the simple things. He was blessed by a long and interesting life filled with love and friendship.

Beloved husband of his late wife Jean and adored father of Steven and Joanne. He will be sorely missed by all the family and friends who brought him comfort and happiness.

Gordon’s funeral ceremony will be held at 1.30pm on Friday 2nd January 2026 at East Lancashire Crematorium, Cemetery Road, Radcliffe M26 4EU. (Click here for map)

No need to wear formal mourning attire. Whether bright colours or black, please just wear whatever you like best.

There will be a moment in the ceremony where you are invited to place a tribute on his willow coffin, if you’d like to. Bring something of your own – a nice leaf or stone, or a message just for him. We’ll provide little tributes you can use if you prefer. There’s no obligation to get up if you don’t want to.

Feel welcome to pick a nice mossy twig or something from your winter garden to place on his coffin, but please don’t buy shop-bought flowers. If you would like to make a gift in Gordon’s memory, he would have preferred a donation to a good cause:

Gordon supported The Salvation Army all his life. He had been moved by their support for WW1 veterans such as his own father, and he continued to place real value on their work nowadays with people less fortunate than he. (www.salvationarmy.org.uk)

At his most joyful in the company of a dog, Gordon made friends with every enthusiastic canine, no matter where he was. Dog’s Trust work to help dogs in distress. (www.dogstrust.org.uk)

Friends and family are encouraged to join us after the funeral for a celebration of Gordon’s life at Pike Fold Golf Club, Hills Lane, Unsworth, Bury, BL9 8QP from 3 – 5pm (Click here for map)

There is plenty of car parking and the venue is wheelchair accessible. We’ll provide a warm welcome, hot drinks and good food, and you can bring your memories to share.

Although not essential, if you are planning on joining us, it would be very helpful to have an idea of numbers to cater for.
