Heather Gillian Armes (aka Beanie)
5th December 1935 – 30th January 2026
Much loved wife to the late Keith, loving mum to David and his partner Gemma, grandmother Beanie to Ida, and dear friend to many.
Heather was a kind and caring woman who liked to help others wherever possible. Born in north London, she lived her younger years during WW2 moving between Devon, Gloucestershire and Sussex, before moving back to Essex and later meeting her husband Keith at a music appreciation society. They moved north to Cheshire for his work when their son David was little and she became involved in the community there, volunteering at the local Oxfam shop, for the National Trust and later working at the Silk Heritage Museum and singing in the choir in Macclesfield. In the last few years, living with Alzheimer’s, she has been wonderfully cared for by the team at Waterside Lodge here in Todmorden.
Heather’s funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday the 12th of February 2026 at Natural Endings, Todmorden.
Please wear what you are comfortable in. No need to wear black. Heather was especially fond of pinks and purples, as well as yellowy-greens and earthy browns.
Instead of store-bought flowers, Heather’s family invite you to bring a ‘nature gift’ to the funeral. This can be a leaf, twig, feather or acorn you find on a walk, or perhaps a flower or bit of greenery from your own garden. There will be a moment in the ceremony where you are invited to place your nature gift on her coffin.
If you would like to make a donation in Heather’s memory, she has left a gift to the Samaritans in her will, and so we think this would be very appropriate. We will leave you to do this directly, rather than leaving money at the funeral.
Natural Endings is next to the train station, with train connections between Manchester and Leeds. There is parking available in Todmorden town centre, for a small hourly fee. We have a couple of parking space for those with limited mobility. Please get in touch to reserve a space.
