Mon Hurst

Mon Hurst

10th February 1961 – 8th November 2022

Aunty and loved and loving friend. A legend in her living room. Advocate and activist. Belonging to the community of Hebden Bridge.

Mon’s funeral service will be at 4pm on Saturday 26th November at Wadsworth Community Centre, Billy Lane, Old Town, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8RY.  The venue is fully accessible.

At 4pm the funeral service will begin. Some designated speakers will share thoughts, readings and memories about Mon.  Mon’s coffin will be present.

During Mon’s service there will be an opportunity to tie a small keepsake or message to Mon’s coffin and to say goodbye to Mon. Please make them out of paper, cardboard, wood or fabric and make a small hole in them so that ribbon can be threaded through.

If you’re unable to attend Mon’s service at Wadsworth Community Centre you can join via zoom from 3.30pm.

Around 5pm we will wave Mon off with love and gratitude.

After that there will be a wake and celebration of Mon’s life when, in a more informal way, we’ll share stories, music, poems, food and drink.

On Monday 28th November at 9.15am there will be a very short committal service at Oakworth Crematorium, Wide Lane, Oakworth, Keighley, BD22 0RJ. Everyone is welcome but please bear in mind that our main funeral service and wake is when we will have the time and space to say goodbye together and to celebrate Mon’s life. This will be next Saturday at Wadsworth Community Centre.

We will have plenty of flowers so if you would like to alternatively make a donation in Mon’s memory please donate towards supporting migrant/asylum/refugee women and children, victims of violence and abuse who have no recourse to public funds. You can donate through their Just Giving page.
