Ruth’s memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday 9th August at St Andrew’s Church, Buckland Monachorum, Devon. The service will be followed by a short graveside interment of Ruth’s ashes in her parents, Gladys and Bernard’s, grave. Ruth’s family would be honoured if you can join them to remember Ruth and celebrate the life she led. The service is welcome to all. Ruth loved colour, please do not feel the need to wear black.
Following the memorial service, Chris, Phil and Rich invite you to come and join them for food and refreshments in Buckland Chapel, located opposite the church. We will be providing cake and refreshments in the afternoon, and a larger buffet and drinks in the early evening. We appreciate some may be travelling far and need to get on the road, please do come for as long as you feel able. And for those that are staying locally or live locally, do join us into the night in true Ruth style (never one to stop partying early!).
Please no gifts or flowers. If you would like to make a donation in Ruth’s memory please make it for Verd de Gris or Memory Lane Cafe, charities that provide creative support for people affected by dementia. Ruth volunteered at Verd de Gris in Hebden Bridge for many years and loved making a creative difference to the lives of others. When Ruth had dementia herself attending Memory Lane Cafe in Sowerby Bridge was an amazing support of smiles and joy for Ruth.

St Andrew’s Church is located in the centre of Buckland Monachorum, PL20 7NA. There is limited parking right in front of the church. Please only use this if you have mobility issues. The official Church car park is on the left as you turn down the slope towards the church, before you reach the Drake Manor Inn. There are some spaces available along the main street, or if you head on past the church there are more parking opportunities in Chapel Meadow residential area PL20 7LR.
If you have travelled far and arrive early, Chris, Phil and Rich are likely to be found in Buckland Chapel setting up the space for the wake following the ceremony, I’m sure we could put the kettle on for you! There are also toilets available if needed.
A farewell ceremony and cremation was held for Ruth on Monday 15 July in Calderdale, West Yorkshire. Ruth moved to Yorkshire from Devon in 2012. As well as her immediate family, the service was attended by many of the friends Ruth made during her time in Yorkshire.
