Description

This willow coffin is available to purchase directly or as part of a funeral being arranged with Natural Endings.

Our Willow Coffins have a slightly pink and golden look, they are hand-worked by traditional basket weavers using age-old methods that have changed very little in over 2000 years. Willow is by far the ultimate in environmental recycling, willow is grown in rows of bushes and once harvested can generate back to the same height within a year. Willow has been known to grow up to 8ft tall annually and has the ability to degrade much more quickly than conventional hardwood. The willow plant can be harvested annually from the same crown for up to 60 years.

They have become popular again lately but are by no means a new idea. In the late 19th century Sir Frances Haden developed wicker coffins. His design had no lid and was to be filled with flowers or earth for natural burial.

A willow coffin is 100% biodegradable, and is suitable for traditional burial, woodland burial, and cremation. It is FFMA tested and certified, and CCSA approved for quality and we can provide certification. They are very strong and tested to bear heavy loads.

Please note

  • We do not provide the coffin with flowers – these are for illustrative purposes only.
  • The coffin that you receive may not match the colour exactly of the coffin displayed on screen. Willow is a natural material and the colour tone may vary harvest to harvest. Also your computer monitor may have different colour settings to ours.
  • All our coffins come with a bio-degradable waterproof lining and a second unbleached cosmetic cotton lining
